Why is the roofing material pulling away from the metal edge of my flat roof?

Why is the roofing material pulling away from the metal edge of my flat roof?

At Huron Street in Chicago, the roof had a gravel-stop problem. A gravel stop is the metal edge around a flat roof that helps keep the roofing material from lifting and water from sneaking in like it owns the place. Here, much of the roof membrane had pulled away from that edge. Not ideal—unless your goal is to give rain an open invitation. :rain_cloud:

Anchor Point Team repaired the loose membrane along the rear gravel stop, where it was no longer properly attached. Think of it like a loose lid on a takeout container: eventually, something messy is going to escape—or in this case, get inside. :pizza:

The crew removed the loose material where needed and prepared the metal edge with primer so the new roofing material could bond correctly. No magic wand, no duct tape, and no “it’ll probably be fine.” Just proper preparation for a repair built to hold up. :hammer_and_wrench:

Next, installed a new strip of modified-bitumen roofing membrane along the gravel stop. The membrane was sealed into place to help keep water from getting beneath the roof surface. That means the roof edge can go back to doing its job instead of auditioning for a water park. :sweat_drops:

Gravel-stop repairs may not sound glamorous, but they can prevent a small edge issue from becoming a much larger roof leak. When membrane starts to pull away, acting early can help protect the roof deck, interior spaces, and your budget from a surprise soaking. :money_with_wings:
